It has been a couple of years that we are joining this nice DiZeBra regattas, mostly with the Buzz but sometimes also with the Laser. With the Laser, I particularly see the improvement potential at the downwind mark which always cost me 3-4 places being the conservative outside boat. I wish I could pull of the perfect gybes rounding manoeuvre that the good inside boats are showing. Practice, practice, practice.

On the 17th July the wind conditions were ideal for the Buzz: 3-4bf, enough to keep us planning without the risk of capsizing. After winning the first race, we took the lead on the 2nd, but then made a very unfortunate mistake by overlooking a beating boat covered behind our gennaker. Fortunately the damage was minor, however a broken “wandputting” prevented us to finish the 2nd race.

Although we lost our start watch, it does not make much difference at Dizebra. We just sheet in when everybody else does, which normally allows a reasonable start without a start watch. But still, performing better starts is something to work on…starting by buying a new watch.

We will be back, maybe with the RS500 next time to see how we do with a more challenging boat handicap. Big thanks for this nice evening, the always perfect race organisation and for towing us back to the harbour! We also appreciated the panic free handling of the little collision and the friendly discussion of the action while having a beer.
